Marble Mountains Ranger Station

The marble mountain wilderness is a 241 744 acre 978 30 km 2 wilderness area located 60 miles 97 km southwest of yreka california in the united states. The pct crosses the wilderness and boulder peak the tallest in the park rises to an impressive 8299 feet. Wilderness permits are not required for trips into the marble mountain wilderness. This center is the main backcountry permit office for the park complex.

Before departing weaverville stop at the forest service ranger station office to pick up a campfire permit you may also obtain one at the ranger station office in fort jones should you approach. There isn t a lot of information available about the trails in the marbles. However since it is aging it s best to visit a local ranger station such as the one in fort jones as the klamath forest service. The land was first set aside in april 1931 as the marble mountain primitive area which comprised 234 957 acres 950 84 km 2.

Thankfully i have art bernstein s book best hikes of the marble mountain and russian wilderness areas california written in 1996 but to date still the best resource available at amazon. Although the entire range and the mountain are in the wilderness area the 4wd forest service road fr120 is not. Turn onto ranger station road which leaves sr 20 at milepost 105 3 just west of marblemount and drive 0 7 miles to the end of the road and the ranger station.
